A new solo album in 1998 - Wolf In The Tower - saw Riff gigging more than ever, both with Little Miracle and as a solo artist. He also created a songwriters' evening at The Toucan Club in Cardiff, which turned into one of the best nights out in the city and quickly became well known all over the UK as a showcase for up-and-coming and established acoustic acts.
In 1998 Riff also recorded 'Start', a collection of very popular comedy sketches written by himself and Michael Lawson Brooke, which features Riff's now-legendary characters Stabba Jones, Derek and Ron.
