Chasing The Rainbow

Have you ever wished away a rainbow
Have you ever stood and watched the sun go
To where all is duller no shape no colour
And no way of seeing fields of grain grow
Have you ever wished away a rainbow
Have you ever had to run from what is true
Have your heart and mind and stomach suffered you
As you turn the light out on a lover on a flight out
Of a world that had no room for you
Have you ever had to run from what is true

It doesn’t matter what you feel
It doesn’t alter what is real
It’s the truth and the way well at least for today on this wheel
It doesn’t give you time to hold
It doesn’t let you keep the gold
It’s the hand at the crossroads who knows who to leave in the cold

After-images begin their flight
Reversals of the spectrum flood the night
Your shadow through the door stretches thin before no more
Touches anything close to where it felt right
After-images begin their flight
So I think you better up and leave
If the pot of gold is only make believe
I only feel the pain grow chasing the rainbow falling to my knees
So I think you better up and leave
