Drinking From The Drain

There’s a valley we both walk through
Where once the waters we knew
Sculpted and led us hid us and fed us
We drank the morning dew
There’s a place not far away
That makes it hard to stay
When the valley is colder and it makes you feel older
Sinking deeper into the clay

I’d shout at you if I were not the same
But I’m just like you drinking from the drain
We lose ourselves and forget everything
I see my self when I hear you sing
You’ve much to give and you give it everything

You long to see your toes you suffer all the blows
There’s really no doubt that you want to get out
But you’ll wait a while and see how it goes
Am I not to you just one to pick from a few
Who have texture a time and riddle and rhyme
And whose arrows fire straight and true

There was so much that gave us the proof
You wheezed from the weight of the hoof
I saw the hoof mark on your face in the dark
‘Cause I was there when we ran from the truth
I was there on that journey of song
It wasn’t down to right or wrong
I said it to you I’d be a brother to you
But it’s better now it’s all done and gone

I’d shout at you ‘cause I was the same
I was just like you drinking from the drain
We lost ourselves and forgot everything
I saw my self when I heard you sing
You’ve still more to give so give it everything
