Diamond In The Coal

How dark it is without you in the sky
How hard it is now the river's dry
And I thought that it would run forever
That we would watch the world turn together
That we could sail our boat through any weather
That we would make it through whatever

How cold It seems under this sun
How old I feel and the journey's just begun
And I wonder where the cards will take me
And I hope you'll never try to forget me
For that to me suggests you must regret me
And that would twist forever deep inside me

Goodbye my light I'll miss you
Take care my only I wish you
All of the luck and the love in the world
To find what I couldn't give you
You're a diamond I found in the coal
And I still hear the heart that I stole
Inside my head while I stitch mine with thread
In agony fixing the hole

How strange it feels to stand so far apart
How awkward I feel trying to make a start
When there's so much to rediscover
And we've both left so much with the other
So it's all stacked against another lover
For no matter who your light will shine above her

How dull the flowers look to me today
How noisy the birds appear when I'm this way
And I hope I make it safely through the gale
And the winds don't take toll on my sail
For it hopes to drive on further not to fail
In search of love the only holy grail

I'd be half the man if I had never met you
But I'm half the man for having upset you
And so I'll ne'er drink again
Or hold in my hand
The beauty of Alison Wonderland
